May 11, 2011    Brigadoon needs crew!

Brigadoon is currently in need of a couple of people backstage to help with the running of the show. We need someone to work our curtain and we need general help with moving set pieces and props to ensure a smooth running show.

The run of the show is May 20th to June 4th, with performances every Wed, Thu, Fri and Sat evening at 7:30pm and Sat and Sun matinees at 2:00pm. You would also be required for our tech week May 15th to 19th, so that you can familiarize yourself with the show.

If you'd like to help out, but may have some conflicts with this schedule, please let us know as we might be able to work out an equitable solution.

We also need a sound op for May 20th, the two performances on May 21st, the Sunday matinee on May 22nd and the two shows on Saturday May 28th. We will have approx 8 microphones in use for the show as well as a sound f/x cd.

Duties of the sound operator include: preforming microphone checks before a performance starts, monitoring sound levels during performance, and following instructions from the stage manager of when to play sound cues.

Experience with sound operation is an asset, but we are willing to mentor and provide instruction.

All our volunteers receive two complimentary tickets to see the current show, which they can pass on to friends and family members, as well as receiving the benefit of being invited to the Preview night for each of next season's productions (Rocky Horror Show, Assassins, and Gypsy).

If you'd like to help out in either of these capacities, please contact me at

Thank you so much for your consideration,

January 28, 2011    Call for Proposals 2011-2012

Front Row Centre Players invites directors to make proposals for shows to be produced during our 2011-2012 season.

We encourage directors experienced in musical theatre to submit proposals (following the guidelines below) to Joey Sayer and Andrea Sereda, Co-Artistic Directors.

FRC produces at least three musicals each year (Chess, The Producers, Putting it Together and Brigadoon in our current season; Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Hello, Dolly!, Forbidden Broadway’s Greatest Hits and Nunsense in our previous season) and has produced musicals for over 20 years.

For our upcoming season, we are looking for shows that will create an exciting and balanced roster. In our most recent seasons, we have sought three blockbusters due to fundraising needs. Previous to that, we have sought two potential blockbuster shows and a show that may be lesser-known but will entertain, inspire and deserves to be produced. All shows must have a commercial viability and be able to recoup their costs. Shows proposed can be family shows or what we have called a "Hot!" show, which explores more mature themes. We are currently also producing a smaller, revue-style show in a cabaret setting as well. Please see below for examples of shows that can be proposed.

In our considerations, we ideally look for a balance with older, classic shows, modern shows, family-friendly shows, “Hot!” shows, blockbusters and lesser-known shows, and a cabaret-style show. We look to balance male and female directors, as well as encouraging new directors who have never directed for Front Row Centre Players before. We also encourage mentorships (see below).

Participating in Front Row Centre shows is on a completely voluntary basis. There are no honoraria nor out-of-pocket expense reimbursements that are not directly related to the show and approved by the producer.

We are anticipating to produce three large shows to be performed in the Victor Mitchell Theatre at the Pumphouse. A venue for a cabaret-style show is TBD.

Please follow the guidelines below to propose shows. Please note that proposals not containing this information will not be seriously considered.

  1. Proposals must include the following information:

    1. Part A
      1. Name of Director
      2. Experience of director with musical theatre and other related experience

    2. Part B
      1. Name of Show including composer/lyricist/book writer
      2. Rights holder (if unsure, please use the resources available on our website)
      3. Brief Description of Show
      4. Director's Vision for the show
      5. Hot!(adult themed) or not?
      6. Potential Cast Size of show, with male/female ratio
      7. Possible members of directorial creative team (if known)
      8. Potential size of band/orchestra
      9. Potential special effect/technical considerations
      10. Any other comments or considerations

  2. Proposals are to be emailed as an attachment to Joey Sayer and Andrea Sereda, Artistic Directors of Front Row Centre Players, at Any questions can also be sent to this email address.

  3. Proposals must be received by midnight, Sunday, February 13, 2011 to be considered.

  4. The following shows are the type of shows we would like to see proposed:

    • Classic Shows:
      • Guys and Dolls
      • South Pacific
      • Mame
      • Gypsy
      • Singin’ in the Rain

    • Hot! Shows/or lesser known shows that deserve to be produced:
      • Urinetown
      • Working
      • Starmites
      • Assassins

    • Cabaret-style shows:
      • Jerry’s Girls
      • Stardust
      • Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris

The artistic directors will consider proposals for the above listed shows in addition to other productions of this nature that potential directors are passionate about.

FRC is committed to including and introducing new people into the theatre. Individuals with little or no experience in directing are encouraged to submit a personal proposal with a letter of intent, resume and any relevant theatre experience and may be considered for assistant director opportunities.

All proposals will be considered by the artistic directors, and recommendations will be put for to the FRC Board to be made official.

Thank you for your interest in Front Row Centre Players!
