FRC believes that inclusivity and diversity are integral to the stories we tell both on and off our stage. We want an environment where everyone, from any background, can do their best work, and as such, we encourage performers of all skills and abilities (physical and/or mental), ages, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, and ethnicity to audition for our shows.
We are keenly aware that the role of Lola in Kinky Boots has typically been played by a Black actor. In conversation with the rights holders, we confirmed that the authors’ intent is that the role be played by an actor from a marginalized community, and although historically filled with a BIPOC actor, it is not a requirement of the role as per the authors‘ notes on casting provided to directors. Given the recent and very real challenges faced by our friends in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community here in Alberta and around the world, we feel it essential to cast the show from the queer community wherever possible. Both the production team and Front Row Centre as a company are extremely proud of the diverse representation in our cast, and we look forward to sharing everyone’s story with you on stage in June.
With all that said, please welcome the amazing, beautiful, diverse, multi-talented humans we have the pleasure of working with in our upcoming production of Kinky Boots:
